Reimagine Therapy

What to expect from therapy

The key thing to expect from therapy is understanding. We provide a safe and non-judgemental space here at ReImagine Therapy, where you can feel comfortable in exploring your difficulties. You can expect honesty and openness, and you will always feel heard. We will work together to help you to improve your emotional wellbeing.

You are also always in control of therapy, which means you can choose what to share with your therapist and what you talk about. Your therapist will ask questions and make suggestions of what it might be helpful to talk through based on what your goals are, but your therapist will never push you to share more than you are comfortable with. If you are receiving EMDR therapy, you will not need to share a great deal about the memories you are working with and you will be fully informed about what to expect during the sessions so as to make fully informed choices about your treatment.

Therapy can be a difficult process and your therapist will be there to support you through this. It is important to remember however, that both CBT and EMDR are collaborative therapies, so it is important for you to take an active role in them and feel ready to commit to them. This means that you and your therapist need to work hard together to address any difficulties, and this may include you continuing to work between sessions in ways that will be agreed in therapy, in order to help you to progress.

So where do we start?

We will have a free 15 minute consultation call to check that we can be a good fit and to answer any questions or concerns you have about therapy.

If we choose to go ahead, we arrange a one-off ‘assessment’ session. In this session, we will talk through exactly what has been going on for you, your general history, and anything you think is important for me to know.

We will discuss your goals for therapy and if you have any therapy experiences that have been helpful or unhelpful before.

I will then give you an idea of what approach I would recommend we take to work towards your goals, based on my knowledge and your information and preferences.

We can then decide from there if we are a good for each other and if you would like to go ahead with the sessions.

You will then usually begin regular sessions- usually weekly or fortnightly, depending on preference and availability.

If you are an expectant parent looking into the ‘journey into parenthood’ package, we will outline what will happen in those specific sessions we book and look at how best to fit them in for you.

We will regularly review where you are up to with therapy- to check we are heading in the right direction, whether we are using the approach that works best for you, and to see how close we feel we are to getting to where you want to reach.

When therapy ends, you will understand exactly what we did during this journey. You will leave with a better understanding of your brain and a confidence in managing any future difficulties that might arise.

You will also leave knowing that you are welcome to come back if you ever need to- because sometimes, life can throw up additional challenges, and this will be a safe space that you feel able to use should you ever need support again.
