How Josh Defeated the Worry Villain

The story follows Josh, a boy with an amazing imagination. Josh starts to notice thoughts coming up in his head that scare him, which are being pushed forwards by a worry villain. No matter how hard he tries to do what it says to get rid of the thoughts, the scarier the thoughts get and the larger the worry villain grown. Josh’s friend gives him a superhero costume and a sidekick to train him how to defeat the worry villain and make his scary thoughts go back into the background again. He not only learns how to fight off the worry villain, but he also learns that these thoughts don’t have to scare him or influence his life.

This is a book aimed at primary school children. Created by a specialist in working with intrusive thoughts, this book was written to explain what thoughts are and how to respond when they get scary. The book can help those already experiencing thoughts that scare them, but can also be a way to help children to understand what these thoughts are and how to respond to them in a way that makes them less likely to influence their anxiety in later life. The story and illustrations are designed to capture the attention of this age group, and the story emphasises real ways to manage such anxious thoughts.
